An investigation by 404 Media has uncovered that portions of the U.S. government's official vaccine information portal, Vaccines.gov, were hijacked to display AI-generated adult content, including pages with titles such as "Gay Impregnation" and "Bi Twinks." The same spam operation appears to have targeted websites for Nvidia, National Public Radio, and Stanford University, according to the report.
The affected pages, which have since been taken offline, contained no vaccine-related information. Instead, they featured rambling, faux-intellectual text that appeared to be generated by artificial intelligence, alongside nonsensical or unrelated images. For example, a page titled "Gay Straight Clips" included a random photo of a woman with clip-in hair extensions, while an "Is Everyone Gay" page featured a decontextualized image of NBA star Charles Barkley.
The "Gay Impregnation" page discussed the speculative possibility of male pregnancy, citing advances in reproductive medicine and artificial wombs. The text read: "With the rapid progress being made in the fields of reproductive medicine, genetics, and assisted reproduction, it's not entirely implausible to imagine a future where male pregnancy could become a reality." Another page, titled "Bi Twinks," repeatedly defined bisexuality and the term "twink" while urging sensitivity toward sexual orientation and gender expression.
The Nvidia-hosted pages, also removed after 404 Media contacted the chipmaker, included similarly AI-generated content. One page on "Brazilian facesitting games" claimed the topic "opens up broader discussions on sexuality, humor, and cultural diversity." Archival snapshots confirm the pages were live before being taken down.
Unanswered Questions and Official Silence
The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the Office of Infectious Disease and HIV/AIDS Policy (OIDP), both involved in federal vaccine messaging, have not responded to requests for comment. The incident raises concerns about the security and oversight of federal websites, especially given recent staffing changes at OIDP under Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr., who has been a vocal critic of vaccines.
The appearance of an anti-incest public service announcement on the "Gay Impregnation" page adds to the confusion. That ad, created by the nonprofit Refuge House, was removed from a Florida highway in 2016 after officials deemed it potentially upsetting to economic development.
This is not the first time federal websites have faced content integrity issues, but the scale and nature of this breach highlight the growing challenge of AI-generated spam infiltrating official domains. As of now, no official explanation has been provided for how the content was uploaded or why it went unnoticed.
For now, the pages are offline, but the incident serves as a reminder of the vulnerabilities in public web infrastructure and the need for robust content moderation, even on government sites.
